Moorpark, CA (December 21, 2017) – Federal Defense Industries (FDI), a leader in military logistics, announces the promotion of Sharyn Ochoa to the position of president and chairman of the board. Under a recent reorganization, Sharyn Ochoa, co-founder of FDI, acquired a majority ownership in FDI and registered the company as a certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) with the Small Business Administration (SBA).
As a Woman-Owned Small Business, FDI is positioned for excellent growth and may now take advantage of government contracts that include set-asides specifically for WOSBs. Additionally, the company can now also help its partnering Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) satisfy their contracting goals with WOSBs.
President Sharyn Ochoa states, “This is an exciting new chapter for our company and I look forward to leading FDI. It’s great that the U.S. government encourages women to be business owners. At FDI, one third of our employees are women and fifty percent of our managers are women.”
When FDI employees were informed of Ms. Ochoa’s new leadership role during a companywide meeting, she received a robust round of applause. “The employees have been so supportive and encouraging,” said Sharyn Ochoa.
Philip Ochoa, co-founder of the business who now serves as vice-president and chief financial officer added, “People like working for her. She has a unique intuitive perspective, a strategic viewpoint and is not afraid to ask the tough questions. FDI will see a lot of growth under Sharyn’s leadership.”
Involved with FDI since its inception in 2000, Ms. Ochoa has been responsible during the years for creating unique training programs for employees. Most recently she became certified as a facilitator for MBA (Motivation by Appreciation), an employee appreciation tool, which identifies preferences for how employees want to be recognized. “We truly value and appreciate our team here. A company is only as strong as its employees. We have an outstanding team of incredibly smart hard-working individuals. We are successful because of the dedication and knowledge of our people. I feel blessed every day to be working with and leading such a great team.” says Ms. Ochoa.
